Anime Adaptations of Light Novels and Games

In this fourth blog, I shall be focusing on what makes anime, anime! Many of them know them by the name of OPs and EDs or Openings and Endings. These are some of the elements which other media don't have, and as an anime enthusiast, I am proud and happy to talk about these that are made with special care and consideration and are the major constituents of beauty in this art form. The visuals, paintings and cuts along with the music or song make great sense and give the viewers an epiphany if they observe well. In this blog, I will be discussing the second episode of Overlord that covers the second chapter, intermission and a part of the third chapter. The second episode contains many elements that will be used and referenced in future volumes and episodes thus making it a very important one. There's nothing much to discuss in the second chapter as it is primarily a dialogue between guardians and Ainz's insecurity of the guardians being disloyal and fearing for his life. He calls for a gathering of Guardians to satiate his fear and curiosity about the now live non-player characters. Although there isn't much to discuss, one must note how realistic Ainz's mind was as an undead- the inquisitiveness, the ability to keep his cool, take rational countermeasures and act accordingly. This blog discusses the first episode of season one of Overlord , covering one and a half chapters in volume one, which will be discussed in this post. The episode starts with several players facing off a horde of undead skeletons at the entrance- a non-diegetic clip hinting at the 1500-player raid on the Great Tomb Of Nazarick, which was recounted many times by Momonga in the Amphitheatrum and the Throne Room(in the light novel)- this was also an excellent use of analepsis in the narrative.  Coming to the story, most of the locations in the Great Tomb Of Nazarick are identical to the ones in the real world. The most striking intertextual reference is the antehall known as Lemegeton, named after The Lesser Key Of Solomon or Lemegeton , a grimoire on demonology; the hall consisted of 67 golems inside the alcoves based on Solomon's 72 demons. Overlord currently has three seasons totalling thirty-nine episodes(thirteen per season), covering nine volumes of light novels; it also has a manga that gets updated infrequently (I won't be mentioning it much; just for reference). The chapters in every volume correspond to an episode with the same name. I shall be covering as much as possible in a series of blogs systematically split into chapters and their corresponding episodes. In this blog, I will be discussing Overlord in general. The anime adaptation is quite faithful to the light novel in terms of fidelity. Although they miss out on some main aspects that I deem necessary, the anime adaptation did very well in the picturisation of the light novel that would set the viewer to visualise the world, making it better for reading the light novels(especially for the volumes beyond the anime).
